Honeymoon Planning Checklist: What to Do Before You Go

Between booking flights, snagging the perfect resort, and making sure your passports aren’t expired (don’t wait on this one, trust me), planning a honeymoon can sneak up on you. Whether you’re leaving right after the wedding or waiting a few months, this checklist will help you stay on top of the details - so you can actually enjoy your honeymoon, not stress-text your travel advisor from the airport.

✅ 6–9 Months Before

  • Decide on your destination and travel style (relaxing beach, city adventure, cultural immersion?)

  • Hire a travel advisor to help narrow down options and book perks you won’t get on your own

  • Set your honeymoon budget (and factor in splurge-worthy upgrades!)

  • Book flights and accommodations early to lock in the best availability

✅ 3–6 Months Before

  • Double check your passport validity (most destinations require 6 months beyond your return date)

  • Make sure your name matches your travel documents (I would not recommend changing your name until after the honeymoon)

  • Set up travel insurance - just in case

  • Schedule time off work and submit those PTO requests

  • Start researching excursions, spa treatments, or special dinners to pre-book

✅ 1–2 Months Before

  • Confirm all bookings and request final travel documents from your advisor

  • Order foreign currency if needed, or check ATM access at your destination

  • Start shopping for outfits, swimsuits, and any special gear (hiking boots, plug adapters, etc.)

✅ 1 Week Before

  • Check the weather and finalize your packing list

  • Download offline maps, e-sim apps, books, playlists, and travel docs

  • Notify your bank and credit card companies of your travel dates

  • Provide a family member with photocopies of important documents

  • Pack a copy of your travel itinerary, including contact info for your advisor

✅ Day Before

  • Charge all devices and pack chargers, headphones, and power banks

  • Set your out-of-office and tie up loose ends at work

  • Print or download boarding passes

  • Get some sleep - you’ve got a honeymoon to enjoy!
