How Much Does a Destination Wedding Really Cost at an All-Inclusive Resort?

So you’re newly engaged, eyeing those dreamy oceanfront ceremonies, and you’ve stumbled across a resort website that says: “Wedding packages starting at $999.”

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well… it kind of is.

That number technically isn’t a lie, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. As a destination wedding travel advisor (and former destination bride myself!), I want to give you a transparent look at what a destination wedding at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico actually costs.

Whether you’re planning on a budget or dreaming of a luxury affair, this post breaks it all down… line by line.

The Real Cost of a Destination Wedding in Mexico

Most couples spend between $10,000 and $35,000 for their destination wedding at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. But that’s a wide range, so let’s zoom in.

There are two main pricing tiers I work with most:

1. Mid-Tier Resorts (Luxury Lite)

  • Spend: $10,000–$20,000

  • Vibe: Romantic, relaxing, stylish, but not over-the-top

  • Examples: Dreams Natura Resort & Spa, Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, and Hard Rock Riviera Maya

  • Best for: Couples who want great value, a beautiful setting, and elevated touches without going full-blown luxury

2. Luxury Resorts (True 5-Star Experience)

  • Spend: $20,000–$35,000+

  • Vibe: Sophisticated, quiet, adults-only, with gourmet food, personalized service, and curated spaces

  • Examples: UNICO 20°87°, Secrets Moxché, Atelier Playa Mujeres

  • Best for: Couples who want to feel fully pampered and make their wedding an ultra-luxurious experience

Important note: These estimates cover your wedding package, décor, add-ons, and vendor fees, but not your resort stay or flights.

What Your Guests Will Pay

You’re probably wondering:
“Are we expected to pay for our guests?”
In short - no. Most couples don’t cover guest accommodations, but it’s helpful to understand what your guests will budget for. Here’s what I tell my couples:

  • Mid-Tier Resorts (Family Friendly): $900-$1,200 per person for 3 nights

  • Luxury Resorts (Adults-Only): $1,200–$1,500 per person for 3 nights

That means a couple attending your wedding might spend around $1,800–$3,000 for their room. Some may stay longer, and travel insurance or transfers may add a bit more. This is why choosing the right resort for your guests’ budget is just as important as choosing one for yours.

So, is the $999 wedding package a myth? Not exactly.
But it’s kind of like when a restaurant says “Tacos starting at $1”—sure, if you want one plain tortilla and a sprinkle of lettuce. 😅
